Qual a melhor época para surfar na Indonésia?

De Abril a Outubro. Este período do ano corresponde ao inverno no hemisfério sul, altura em que ocorrem grandes tempestades nos famosos Roaring Forties (latitudes 40-50 graus a sul do Equador, no Oceano Índico) que geram grandes ondulações. Estas ondulações (swells) viajam milhares de milhas, perdendo força pelo caminho, até atingirem as costas da Indonésia onde encontram recifes de coral, água morna e ventos fracos, condições perfeitas para a prática de surf. Durante estes meses (Abril a Outubro) ocorre em média um bom swell todas as semanas nas ilhas expostas ao Oceano Índico.
Durante os restantes meses do ano (de Novembro até Março) é verão no Oceano Índico e portanto há poucas tempestades, e as que ocorrem são mais fracas, resultando em ondas menores e menos consistentes, em particular entre Dezembro e Fevereiro (cerca de 1 swell de força média por mês).
No entanto, Março e Novembro são meses de transição e ainda ocorrem alguns bons swells, e sem crowd nenhum! Para quem procura surf mais “suave” e ondas desertas, Março e Novembro são uma excelente escolha para uma surf trip na Sumatra.
